Profits or Prophets

We are blessed in this age with a smorgasboard of prophets - green prophets, new age prophets, prophets of doom, prophets of wealth...prophets on every corner.

All we seem to be short of are prophets of God.

Those of you who want to argue that, fire away. But I'll warn you, don't point me to the latest biblical heartthrob on TBN or the Bestsellers List - there are no prophets under contract to Rupert Murdoch or Pat Robertson

Prophets don't write books that make the NY Times or become media darlings. Prophets of God write books that burn your eyes and they are the targets of the MSM, not their pets.

Don't think I haven't come across the real deal; I have.

A true prophet doesn't always make you comfortable or provide a sequential record of fulfilled predictions to titillate your curiousity. The truly annointed prophet will likely care little about proving himself and it is just as likely he has a fistful of unfulfilled prophecies to his credit.

Oh, but you thought prophets had to be 100% correct: they do.

But being correct and being fulfilled are not the same.

As evidence I give you Jonah. Every prophecy he made concerning Nineveh was completely true, yet, he never had even one fulfilled in his time. Is it that Jonah was not truly a prophet of God? Of course he was, but his prophecies were conditional, the fulfillment being a result of the actions of the people of Nineveh. They repented; the prophecies were suspended.

And there is the key to discerning the prophet of God from among the hordes of self-proclaimers (of course, the true prophet won't be with the crowds unless he is preaching to them). The prophet of God has one purpose only: do God's work as he is told to do it.

If you are truly a prophet, God bless you. If not...you have your rewards already.

Yes, thank you for encouraging others to prophesy--as St. Paul did. You know, the spiritual gifts are given to the Body for the building up of the Body. To build faith--to bring forth God's great Kingdom and fulfill His word.
